I did?
What better time to look back at the whole phenomenon? I've only read the first two of the Edgar Rice Burroughs novels (the person who recommended them insisted I read them both, and that until one reads The Return of Tarzan, one has not read Tarzan at all... and once I'd finished, I wholeheartedly agreed), and I've always meant to go back and hack my way through the rest. Let's do it!
We've got a whole continent to unintentionally insult
in the process here, people, so let's go go go!
So, I'll be reading and reviewing all the Tarzan novels, and a few Tarzan movies. Mainly I've tried to track down those few movies which the Tarzan fans hold up as examples of how to do it right: The Tarzan with a moral code all his own, who has no problem dropping noose after homemade-noose gently down from the branches to pick off his hapless victims noiselessly, one by one.
Hi!
I'm also drawing a poster that will include one superhero (or proto-superhero, or meta-superhero) for each of the 100 years from then to now. But I'm a little weak on current superheroics: If anyone has suggestions for the most important superheroes of the past ten years, do let me know!
Tarzan! There was never anything like him before!
Mowgli (first appr. 1893)
