Blog Idea Ruined By Excessive Number of Rolls Royce Automobiles

A co-worker of mine recently learned one of her favorite movies for kids, The Gnome-Mobile, was actually based on a book by Upton Sinclair.  That's quite a literary pedigree for a zany automobile comedy, and it got me ruminating on the idea of a literary version of the Wacky Races, or Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines, or what-have-you.  You can imagine the sort of thing...  the Joad family cast as extras from Lil' Abner.  Probably taking place in the auto racing portion of Nevil Shute's On the Beach.

After doing a little research, however, it turned out three of my four first ideas (the Great Gatsby, the Three Investigators, and the Gnome-Mobile itself) are all yellow or gold-plated Rolls Royces!

Good thing they had that gnome-catcher.

Gatsby's car would invariably hit the other characters (whenever they stepped out of their cars), with Daisy behind the wheel.  Gatsby would always take responsibility.  It would happen 2-3 times an episode.

These guys had the gold-plated one.  Eat it, Gatsby.

So, sorry, but the literary Wacky Races are off.  We'll do some sort of Rolls Royce Voltron thing instead, where everyone refuses to be any color but yellow.
